As the title of the newsletter might lead you to believe, we are focusing on profitability, opportunity, and growth here...
One thing I spent a good deal of time talking about and thinking about in 2023 was the idea of effectiveness in strategy.
It was a chance to get into the big idea that guides my strategy thinking and work, strategy is what you do and not what you say.
Planning is procrastination. Most of what people call "strategy" in nonsense.
As the title says, a "masterclass" to start your year off right.
Each year, I keep a running list of people, things, and stuff that inspires me.
Last year, I was teaching my brand management course for the Indiana University - Kelley School of Business and the Kelley On Location program. This gave me an opportunity to share a ton of new ideas and people with my students.
As the year was winding down, I put together a list of 107 people that are really important to my on-going learning and thinking.
I'd encourage you to scan the list and pick someone that might touch your area of focus to work on.
I'm always focused on strategy/branding/pricing...but there are some really great folks there.
Heading into 2024, do you really have a strategy?
My research has taught me that less than 1 in 10 of the businesses I encounter really do have a strategy.
That's been consistent over the years.
At the start of 2020, I promised everyone that came to my standing room only session at INTIX on generating revenue a list of 101 ways to market, sell, and monetize their live events.
In the years since, we've had some stuff go down, but the list still holds up and can be applied to a number of other industries as well.
